Minimus I just try to be honest. I am more than ready to condemn real stuff but I detest the hyperbole and vitriol. This mind control thing is hypebole. I've read a lot about "apostates' in general, not just exWitnesses and this is so typical it's like someone is taking is straight out of the text books.

recently my jw sister devorced her husband after little more than a year of mariage.
i expected that this news would draw out the elders with prying questions etc.
however they only wanted to know if her decision was final and if she understood the rammifications of this action (not being able to remarry).
Depends on the congregation but it's pretty common these days.
i'm sure this must of happened at least once in 125 years, but what if .......... you are working for brother a in his cleaning business (that's seems to be all jw's do) or any other business, and you get df'd lets say for immoral conduct or apostacy, would you be fired ???
and what legal course would you have ???
the freedom of rights must include discrimination against/for religion, just because someone leaves a religion does that give the right to the owner of the business to fire a person.. any thoughts ????????.
I kow of two cases where the Society has given direction on matters of this kind. In both cases they were pretty direct in saying you can't mess with people's employment because they are disfellowshipped.
Case 1
Disfellowshipped person applies for job, is told simply not possible because has been disfellowshipped. Person consults lawyer and tells potential employer intends to sue, employers calls Legal in Brooklyn for help and is told they'd better hire disfellowshipped person pronto because they are toast. Disfellowshipped person decides not to sue and drops the whole thing.
Case 2
Person works for company and is disfellowshipped. CO wants owner to fire disfellowshipped individual and says he will have privileges removed from any other Witnesses who work for company if they stay and disfellowshipped person is not fired. Local congregation writes to Service Desk. Service Desk replies this is no one else's business, including the CO, that it is illegal to fire this individual and that no action can be taken against other employees.

i'm curious..... the society's policies on the issue of a person seperating from his or her mate is the following (so far as i know):.
the mate may "scripturally" seperate on the grounds of:.
1) extreme abuse.
There's a whole lot more separation and divorce going on these days and the Organization doesn't really know how to deal with it. I know several couples that have split and just won't talk about it to anyone. It's interesting to watch.
And I do know people who have gotten legal separations or divorces so they could get child support and no one could do anything about it.

Gary B I was being sarcastic. The mind control thing is just another excuse. It is very typical of hostile leavers, no way unique to JWs.
Most people here enjoy the myth though and they cling to it with the same fervor that Witnesses cling to their myths.

If mind control really worked then all Witnesses would be getting ten plus hours a month in the field ministry, holding a bible study, and never missing a meeting, and most of them would be pioneering. It's obvious to anyone that isn't happening so it's a pretty shoddy sort of 'mind control.'
E-watchman doesn't demonstrate the complete wackiness of YouKnow, I'd find that hard to believe.
